I am from Anaheim and also miss the ocean —- BUT wait until you and the kids get a look at the starry starry nights of rural America! It will take your breath away! Get away from all town lights and wait for it! I’m a South Dakota girl now and love the night sky. Good luck!

well, it’s not the ocean, but Lake Michigan is pretty huge, and a sunny day on the beach there can feel a lot like a sunny day on the ocean. sounds like you should be within weekend-road-trip distance, and I hope that’s something you can do not too long after you get settled.

I grew up in Kansas, and while I don’t want to live there again, I still feel that sense of “I’m home” when we’re driving back for a visit and hit the prairie. I miss the big sky and the long, long view of the horizon.

I guess it’s all relative. I would miss the ocean too. It’s vast expanse and mystery conveys a sense of hope and wonder. However, having lived in the AZ desert most of my life and absolutely hating it after being relocated by my mother from upstate NY, I so envy you going to a place with 4 seasons, green grass, flowers, wide open spaces, nature, a seemingly simpler life and the midwest values and sense of community that you don’t get in the desert or in hectic california cost either. There are lots of things for you to look forward to and I know you will get on your feet and be back for a beach vacation someday real soon!

It was on of my traditions for a very long time to go to the beach on New Year’s day – early before all the folks who had partied all night were up – and just sit and breath and reflect on the past year, think about the upcoming one…

funny you mention the ocean; today way to the store with the radio on and the oldies; the song, “sittin’ on the dock of the bay, watching the tide roll away” and the song lyrics made me think of you. the times in our journey when just going out and sitting to watch the ocean and breath.
