Productive Break

It has been a productive break.  The kids had 3 days off (plus the weekend) and I feared we would all have cabin fever by now but we have survived!  It helped that one child had sleepovers two nights in a row.  Despite having everyone home – which always means more cooking, cleaning and entertaining – I managed to complete a 3,700 word writing assignment, finish one cat bed and start another, mail off a bunch of eBay items, and take the food safety course online and get my certificate.  Tomorrow I’ll drop it by the school district office and then wait anxiously to see if I’m called for an interview.  Thanks to all the work I managed to squeeze in during the break we are very close to having enough money to pay next month’s rent.  I now have half a dozen cat beds ready (including a special order that just needs to be felted and then can be mailed) and I feel that I should start marketing them soon.  Below are the chocolate/raspberry small cat bed (for a kitten or petite cat) and the ocean blues bed for a larger kitty.

We also managed to have a lovely Thanksgiving, complete with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy and cranberry sauce with some local friends who have continued to stand by us during our difficulties.  My youngest daughter and I made a braided loaf of bread to take as our contribution.

Next week will be busy – three of the kids have doctor’s appointments, the kitten is due to be neutered and I’m volunteering for two days of workshops in my son’s 2nd grade class (unless I can put it off until after Christmas, and then I’ll either be doing more eBay or cleaning out our storage unit).  I hope you all had happy holidays with friends and family.

It doesn’t matter about the color but I will be ordering one from you on payday. (next Friday). I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. You always spoke of her with such dignity and respect, which isn’t something that is always directed at the homeless these days. You were a good friend to her. I’ll be in touch next week. Thanks!

Thanks Rita! I should have a few more done by then so you’ll have a selection from which to choose. My eBay work ended abruptly today as my friend’s partnership dissolved so I’m grateful for the order.

I love those cat beds! how much will you be charging for them? will you take any orders? good luck on that job app!

Thanks! I’m charging $45 if you buy one I’ve already made and $50 for special order beds – I’ve found special order beds are a little trickier as our yarn shop has limited colors in the good felting wool so I sometimes have to get yarn online and that adds to the cost. Both prices include priority mail shipping in a flat rate padded envelope. I have a nice dark blue one with white trim and another green one finished and am working on one in various muted pink shades.
