I am very happy to report that things are looking up around here. For one thing- we may have found a replacement home. As you know our very small (27-foot) trailer is cramped and falling apart. The floor is disintegrating, the oven doesn’t work, the water heater just quit on us, and so on. Yesterday I saw a listing on our local Craigslist for a 39 foot park model trailer with 2 bedrooms! The owner is selling it for $4,000 which is a VERY good price. We are going to look at it on Saturday. 12 more feet of space and a bedroom for the kids! Heaven! I’m trying to temper my enthusiasm and hope however, as it will go to the first person who has cash in hand and at best I can pull together half of the price by the end of the month. If anyone would like to chip in I would be very, very grateful!
My other good news is that I’ve been called back for a second interview next week at a small local environmental firm. I interviewed with the owner about 3 or so weeks ago and although I thought it went well I had not heard from them. If I get the job it will just be part-time to begin with and will hopefully become full- time in the fall. Because the job would just be part-time the income won’t be much more than my unemployment benefit. We won’t be in the position to save a lot or move on up in accomodations for some time. That’s why this other trailer would be such a blessing – more space (even counter space and a real refrigerator) and better living conditions – we could be comfortable enough to stay put while I build up some cash reserves.
I’m so happy! It feels so good to have hope! At the same time my voice of experience warms me against succumbing to euphoria – if these things don’t work out the fall would be so much worse from that height. Cautiously optimistic, it tells me, just be cautiously optimistic. I hear you I tell it and then I go outside to turn cartwheels!
