Mending & an Anniversary

We are all on the mend now! At the end of last week the kids were back at school and I finally had a chance to catch up on sleep. We weathered not only the flu with its fevers and aches and pains, but also a surprise case of Whooping Cough. Somehow it seemed fitting that we should be hit with what is these days essentially a third world disease! That one required a trip to the doctor’s office, an inhaler and antibiotics to cure and was the worst offender in the ‘keeping mom up all night’ contest. Also the most expensive even with generic drugs! Unfortunately we squandered our beautiful warm (70s) sunny weather being ill and now that everyone has their energy levels up the weather is forecast to be cooler and wetter for the rest of the week.
Today we are celebrating a special anniversary. My oldest 2 daughters and I met my son for the first time 5 years ago in Nanjing China on Valentine’s day! He has overcome many obstacles (he was born with a heart defect and failed to thrive for the first couple of years of life) and is making progress on all fronts. Although still the size of a small 5-year old he has gained 12 pounds since we moved from Colorado (where the altitude was inhibiting his growth) and grown 6-inches. He is a funny, smart, engaging boy, and, as he says, he will always be my valentine!

So good to know everyone is better–hope you are taking time to care for yourself too! Keep walking (your are so lucky to be in a part of the country that is not like the frozen tundra of the northeast) and paying attention to your own health–all the kids depend on you! I’m wishing for an early spring and lots of good luck for you and your family.

An honest remark to the Mom he loves so much. Makes those last days of sleepless nights worth it.

Glad that’s over and everyone is back to school.

I held a Whooping Cough clinic at my Farmers Market this summer. I guess it has really reared it’s ugly head. So sorry your family was dealt such a harsh blow. And very glad everyone is feeling so much better. Take Care.
