No, we are not going to Disneyland or Sea World. We won’t be staying at a luxury resort, nor are we heading to the Midwest to visit family. And we most certainly are NOT going tent camping! Nope, our vacation accommodations are a small 2-bedroom house of “This Old House” vintage in a close-by neighboring town. We are house and pet-sitting for friends who are vacationing abroad for a couple weeks. Like at the RV Park, there’s no yard – it is currently lying fallow as a dirt patch awaiting a grand landscaping scheme – but at least here the neighbor is out of spitting distance!

We are enjoying the substantial increase in space and privacy (my oldest daughter has a bed in the basement all to herself), the ability to bathe everyday and to do laundry without going to the Laundromat. The kids are soaking up the entertainment- Netflix on demand, Wii, and computer. And I’m enjoying the full kitchen and even contemplating taking a cookbook or two (The Hay Day Country Market cookbook – see recommendations page – will certainly be among them) out of storage and trying my hand at cooking a real meal for a change! Oh my, it’s going to be tough to go back to the trailer.

Originally I considered trying to tackle repairing the floor in the trailer while we were all out but I just haven’t been able to put aside the funds needed for supplies, nor are the kids in camp, or otherwise suitably out of the way and supervised for these next few weeks. And with the construction at the park it’s even more important that they not be running loose around the trailer.

I have lists of other things to do – helping a friend move her business to a new storefront, enrolling my 8th grader in a new school, the continuous basketball practices and games (my daughter’s team is undefeated with half the season over), the never ending job-hunt, the unfinished book proposal, cleaning out our storage unit in an attempt to fit our remaining possessions into a smaller/cheaper unit, and of course taking care of our friends’ house and menagerie (we are now caretakers of 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 chinchillas and 1 mouse)! And amongst all these things I plan to take a day or to just to be on vacation! I want to relax, just a bit.

I’m so happy you guys are getting a break from the RV! More space (even for a little while) means you won’t be at each others throats.. Also happy your kids have some other alternative to distract themselves!

Relax and enjoy. It’s important to recharge the batteries and have some fun.
